Open House and Whacked Cooking Competition
We hope that you have marked your calendars and plan to join us for FRS Asheville's annual Open House on Tuesday, September 13, 2016. The event is open to the public and free to attend. Over 50 manufacturers will be present to exhibit the latest culinary equipment, and a farm to table themed cooking competition will also take place.
The Open House begins at 9:00am, with the Whacked Cooking Competition starting at 1:00pm. Teams have been selected and will be comprised of a professional Chef, GO Kitchen Trainees, School Food Service Directors and other local volunteers. Teams will compete for the coveted Whacked Cleaver and goodie-filled swag bags. The winning team will receive a commercial refrigerator donated to a charity of their choice. The Food Service Director from the winning team will also take home a scholarship for one high school senior interested in pursuing a culinary degree.
Whacked was inspired by a popular Food Network competition called Chopped. The Whacked Competition is hosted on an annual basis by the FRS showroom in Asheville. Like Chopped, Whacked teams must create an appetizer, entrée and dessert from secret (often obscure) ingredients. This year’s secret ingredients are still very much under wraps, but they will reflect a farm to table theme.
Whacked attendees will cheer on their favorite chef led team. Chefs will be Michelle Bailey from Smokey Park Supper Club, Matthew Miner from Renaissance Asheville Hotel, Chris Townsend from Lex 18 and Anthony Cerrato from Strada. All chefs will prepare their creations with a different combination oven by sponsors Rational, Blodgett, Cleveland Convotherm and Angelo PO. Other sponsors include Browne Foodservice and Beverage Air.
The Open House event begins at 9:00am and will last until 5:00pm. Equipment demos, exhibitors and cooking competition will all take place at our showroom located at 23 Asheland Avenue in Asheville. Please join us and feel free to email asheville@gofrs.com with any questions. Visit our Facebook event's page to stay up to date on further Open House details.
